Mentoring Programmes

YIF is committed to supporting its Fellows to build unique and meaningful life trajectories, character and careers that will create significant impact in the domains of their involvement.

These mentors are committed to supporting the Fellowship in the following ways:

  • Guiding the Young India Fellows in developing insights into sectors of their interest over the course of eight months through regular interaction
  • Creating new opportunities for the Young India Fellows through their network
  • Enriching the curriculum and participating in the YIF community by delivering guest lectures and seminars

The YIF offers two levels of mentoring for Young India Fellows:

Mentoring by industry experts

Young India Fellows have the unique privilege of being mentored by eminent industry leaders and experts, academicians and practitioners from around the world.

  • Mentors are handpicked by the Programme for the Fellows based on their interests and aspirations
  • Mentors guide the Fellows by clarifying doubts, discussing opportunities and dilemmas, and helping them build meaningful careers of their choice
  • The Mentorship Programme officially starts in Term 3 and ends in Term 8 of the Fellowship, covering a period of 6 Terms
  • Mentors commit to interact with their mentees at least once or twice a term over the course of the 6 terms. The interactions are over phone, email, Skype or personal meetings
  • Mentors and their mentees can choose to extend their relationship post the Fellowship on mutual consensus
  • While the Mentorship programme is a highly recommended initiative, it is not mandatory, and Fellows can choose not to be assigned a Mentor

Fellow-Fellows Mentoring Programme

The growing YIF Alumni body is a key resource available to support and guide the Fellows during their year at the Fellowship within formalised mentoring relationships. The Fellow-Fellows Mentoring Programme begins as early as Term 1 to offer greater support and help to the Fellows during the initial phase of the Fellowship. The Fellows are encouraged to pursue their relationship with their Alumni-Mentors to gain deeper insights throughout the year and for the future, and post YIF, on mutual consensus.
